Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence,is also termed
'domestic abuse' or 'family abuse'

Abuse,can come in many forms,such as
physical or verbal maltreatment,injury,assault,
violation,rape,unjust practices,crimes or other
types of aggression,

by one person against another in a domestic
setting-such as marriage or cohabitation.

Many may know this as
INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLATION (IPV)
when committed by a spouse,in an intimate
relationship.

It is Domestic Violence by a current or former
spouse or partner,in an intimate relationship
against the other Spouse or Partner

Domestic Violence

IPV,can take a number of forms,including
physical,verbal,emotional,economic and
sexual abuse

Domestic Violence,is not just limited to
Hetrosexual relationships,it occurs in
Same Sex relationship or between former
Spouse and Partner.

Domestic Violence,can also involve violence
against Children,Parents or the Elderly.

It takes a number of forms,including
physical,verbal,emotional,economic,religious,
reproductive,and sexual abuse,

which can range from subtle to coercive
forms to Marital Rape,and to violent physical
abuse,such as choking and beating

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

there are also extreme assaults
such as female genital
mutilation,acid throwing,that
results in disfigurement or death.

Domestic Murders,in some
cultures in other parts of the world
by stoning,bride burning,honor
killings and dowry deaths.

Domestic Violence,often occurs,
when the abuser believes that the
abuse is an entitlement,
acceptable,justified,or
UNLIKELY TO BE REPORTED.

It may produce an
'Intergenerational Cycle of Abuse'
in children and other family
members,who may feel that such
violence is acceptable or
condoned.

CYCLE OF VIOLENCE
refers to
Repeated and Dangerous
Acts of Violence,as a
Cyclical Pattern associated
with high emotion and
doctrines of retribution or
revenge

The pattern or cycle repeats
and can happen many times
during a relationship,each phase
may last a different length of
time.

Another definition of
Domestic Violence and instantly
recognisable is an

incident or pattern of incidents
of controlling,coercive,threatening
degrading and violent behaviour
including

sexual violence,in the
majority of cases,by a
partner,or ex partner,but
also by a family member
or carer.

It is very common,in the
vast majority of cases,it is
experienced by women and
is perpetrated by men.

The Serious Crime Act 2015
s76

creates an offence in relation
to a person who repeatedly or
continuously engages in
behaviour towards another

(this person being personally
connected to them) that is
controlling and coercive.

connected at the time of the
behaviour

c) the behaviour has a serious
effect on (B),and

d) (A) knows or ought to know
that the behaviour will have a
serious effect on (B)

make a person subordinate
and/or dependent by isolating
them from sources of support

exploiting their resources and
capacities for personal gain
depriving them of the means

needed for independence,
resistance and escape,
and regulating their everyday
behaviour

Coercive Behaviour

an act or pattern of acts of
assault,threats,humiliation and
intimidation,or other abuse that
is used to harm,punish,or
frighten their victim.
